Ugghh...I hate having to be around dub haters. They always have to make an argument the second they find out someone likes dubs. Is it really that hard to just respect the difference of preference and just enjoy a show anyway?

I personally prefer subs.
But I'm not going to spread my hate out in the open (with the exception of on my own GD facebook page - where I can hate if I wanna! - and if someone starts an argument...)
Otherwise, had I not discovered Troy I would still be in the dark about all the decent dubs that are out there.
So my general rule of thumb is: If it has Troy in it, try and watch the dub first. If it's unwatchable move to sub. If it doesn't have Troy in it, pass the dub completely and head straight for the sub.
In the case of Vampire Knight, I'd much rather watch the episodes with Troy in them in dubbed, but since the rest of the cast pretty much makes me want to cry, I'd watch all other episodes subbed.
Hetalia has been the only exception to this rule so far. It was funny as hell subbed, but I didn't feel as though I got the whole effect because I didn't catch the accent jokes... So when I first saw it dubbed I loved it. Whether or not the accent's are 'good', it doesn't matter because as long as they have an accent that could represent their nation, I'm down with it.
I loved Germany BEFORE the dub... but NOW I just cant get enough of my German brute
... BUT... I digress. ^^;

I always preferred dubs because I'm lazy and don't like to have to read during the anime. I do watch subs when there is no dub available, but then very often when the dub comes out, I end up hating the dub because I got used to the voices in the sub. And of course, if a dub really stinks - like Full Moon o Sagashite - then I will most definitely prefer the sub.
My vent for the day: I was putting away laundry last night, and one of the things I hung up was a flannel shirt that belonged to my dad. All of a sudden I pictured him in it again, and I got hit hard with a bout of missing him again. It's been about 3 1/2 years - more if you consider what the Alzheimers did to him. I mean, the last time I remember my dad being himself, before the Alzheimers started to change him, was probably over 10 years ago. I miss him so bad. There's so much I never got to show him... 95% of my artwork was done in the last 5 years, so he never saw any of it...
Anyway, I just felt like I needed to get that out.

Sorry to hear that, dyzzi. We never stop missing your lost loved ones. We just have to get used to them not being around anymore. That's all anyone can do....
I wish we had a hug emoticon!! *hugshugshugs* ;D

Well I watch both subs and dubs. Depends on the show(i.e. Death Note-Sub, FMA -both)I see no reason to hate I've had good conversations about all different animes with someone who watches subs, but we never discussed our preferences because either way it's the same show same story Unless the show is a comedy based around pop culture references, but even then we can still talk about how funny they are. I have a friend from Korea that grew up watching Shin Chan and we laugh about that show all the time. As long as someone doesn't feel the need to cram their belief of what they think is better in someone's face, I'm totally cool with hanging out and being friends. Unfortunately I have found no one like that....

Well, I don't have any friends - with the exception of online ones - that even WATCH anime. So... I'd even welcome some spirited conversation about dubs VS subs if I could have it with another warm body in the same room. My husband doesn't even watch anime so lots of what I say goes in one ear and out the other because he's only listening to be polite. XD
I have a friend back home that watches anime and I talk to her online about some of it, but for some reason she's not making the transition to newer anime and just keeps on loving the same old stuff. And when I say old, I mean like nothing new within the last 5 years.

Totally hear ya, avy! I have no real friends that I know IRL that even watch ANY anime at all, so I feel like people who get to even talk with friends in person about some shows is like a dream for me. Everybody I know thinks I'm crazy for even liking it, and my sister-in-law likes to ask me about it, but it's not like she watches it, or knows anything about it (or really cares).
Your friend really needs to get with the new anime times, 'cause there's a lot of great newer stuff out there nowadays! She's totally missing out....

She's stubborn as a mule about it too! It's almost like she's not even willing to give new stuff a chance cause she knows she already likes the older stuff......... Idk. She's lame. XD There's SO MUCH out there. But I dont have to tell you all. :3 You guys aren't lame.

You know I'm one of the few who will watch both subs and dubs.I don't hate on either one.Troy is really good in everything he does,so if he's in it,even if the rest of the cast is dreadful,I'll watch it.But,I have to admit, there's one anime I refuse to watch dubbed and that's Angel Sanctuary.I'm sorry but the english cast is just awful, well except for the comment on crooked breasts. That was pretty funny.

I like to watch shows subbed first then dubbed.
But that's just me.
Sorry for my random rant but...
I've been playing this game I imported from Japan recently (Heart No Kuni No Alice) and while I can understand bits and pieces of it, I can't read kanji. And I have to respond to questions on the game. It never goes well. I make everyone hate me on the game.
Like right now, Elliot (the march hare) is helling at me and Ace (the ace of hearts). I did nothing to make him mad. Except answer a question I couldn't read. ^^'

A real rant, if to just get this off my chest...
There's this other aspiring writer who keeps a blog that I follow, and she posted a rejection letter for her novel manuscript she got from an literary agent who personalized it, which is rare. In the letter, the agent said that the story was too overly-descriptive and she didn't like the writing style. So, this writer also posted the first chapter to her novel and asked her followers to read it and give her some critiques, etc. Most likely, she was just looking for people to combat what the agent said, like "she's crazy! You're manuscript is so good!" That kind of thing, but I read her chapter 1, and I felt like I knew exactly what this lit agent was saying, even if she was a bit vague.
So, I explained to her what I thought were the problems with it, which happened to be the same things the lit agent thought, too. The novel was too "purple prosy," which just means that the writer went nuts with adjectives and overly describing things to the point of nausea. You could do that 200 years ago, but you can't nowadays. Then, stylistically, she wrote the dialogue and some of the narration like a teenager, which the main character is, but you should never do that as an author because NOBODY likes to hear teenagers talk, so no one wants to read that either.
Also, she just spat out like tons of information on the characters all in the first chapter, which was really better left for later on. She made the mistake of "telling" versus "showing," which is really hard not to do as a writer.
Anyway, at first, this writer was pretty nice about what I said, although not fully reading everything I suggested she do instead. So, I further elaborated on the fact that she put in too much information about what was going on in the story. Her comment back wasn't as friendly, and she just wanted to defend her "precious" manuscript by saying how other beta readers thought she wasn't putting enough information into the chapter. Right.... If there had been anymore, it would have been a frickin' library!!! It was crazy full of info best left for the reader to discover later on in the story. Like, tell you're whole story in chapter 1 so there's nothing else to say for the rest of the novel, why don't you!!
I'm just annoyed a bit because she cannot accept the fact that she has made any errors in her manuscript, yet she can never get the damn thing published. Nor can she get her other FIVE manuscripts published either. You'd think she'd figure that, after all these years, there was something flawed about her writing!! Oh, no, it's just those agents and editors! They're so blind to an A-mazing story like yours! Right.... And, like I've never heard of a premise like hers 'cause it's so original. Maybe that's part of the problem? Although, it's really not so much as is her crappy, amateurish writing!!!
I'll give her some advice where she doesn't have to read it, 'cause Lord knows she don't want any of it, but listen when people tell you what's wrong with your story! Especially agents and editors, both of which you love to dismiss whenever they even bother to tell you how to improve! It's so rare that they even do that, so LISTEN to them, moron. You're lucky you didn't get a form rejection, which tells you nothing but "We don't want this."
Avy, if you read this, don't think I'm going to do this with your novel. You're not like this writer because you're just writing for fun, so I definitely won't be critiquing you like this!!! I'll only critique how YOU tell me to!! ;D

I think the person who said "It's better to have love and lost, than to never have loved at all" should've been dragged out into the street and smacked with a salami.Only someone ignorant of love and loss could ever say anything so blatantly stupid.

XD Yeah, people that don't get stuff like that through their thick skulls drive me nuts. If someone tells me something is bad, and if I don't believe them, then yeah, I'll go for a second opinion... but it really sounds like this woman is going overboard... @_@ It's hard to be nice to people and still make them understand what you're talking about. It's really cool of you to be so generous with your time, esp since you're working on something that will be considered for publication one day. Sorry though, that you feel like your banging your head against the wall. XD
