Yes, I've read a lot of poetry back when I was in college because I majored in English. I do love a lot of it, but I always favored prose or drama much more. Still, I just watched the movie "Bright Star," the one about John Keats, and it was very good! Very sad story, indeed, but that man was a brilliant poet! From the actual poem, this is my favorite line: "Awake for ever in a sweet unrest..."That's poetry, baby...

Even though I expected his poems to have a little more spark, judging from his stageplays, Oscar Wilde's poetry was... pretty. Funnily I can't name any right now. Hey, sometimes I like it metered, perfect and indistinguishably bland. Not a fan of Ballad of Reading Gaol, though. I know it means a lot to the guy, and it's just his personal style to boot, but when reading it I just didn't feel like manner and matter really meshed. I grew up on those little rhyming stories by Shel Silverstein and Dr. Seuss, so I liked Tim Burton's The Melancholy Death of Oyster Boy and other stories. A few odd ones just stick to me: Ode to an Onion by Pablo Neruda (because I hate chopping onions, when he says onions make the only tears that are shed without pain I KNOW HE'S LYING. Onion fumes are like huffing whole sea urchins to me. But it was a really nice poem.) Song on the End of the World by Czeslaw Milosz... I might think of more later.

I don't get to read that much poetry, but I've written a few poems. Don't know where they are now, but they're around somewhere.
My mother used to recite poems to me as a child and there were a few that stuck with me. But they're not romantic or storytelling or anything. Simply cute. (Well, to me anyway, but it might be a childhood nostalgia-type thing.) XD
A panther is like a leopard, Except it hasn't been peppered, Should you behold a panther crouch, Prepare to say, "Ouch". Better yet, if called by a panther, Don't anther. ______________________
Yesterday, upon the stair, I met a man who wasn't there. He wasn't there again today, Gee, I wish he'd go away!

That second one made me smile.
Uh. I used to write poetry. But I didn't like what I wrote so I stopped. It just never worked out.
Other than that, I never really read much poetry.

For my brother Kim, Nature's first green is gold, Her hardest hue to hold, Her early leaf's a flower, But only so an hour, Then leaf subsides to leaf, So Eden sank to grief, So dawn goes down to day, Nothing gold can stay. It's so hard to believe you were taken away a year ago.I swear I can still hear you laughing.

Well, I won't say that I'm a pro at writing poems, but I do attempt at it sometimes. And this is a poem that I wrote a few years ago when I first began watching Trinity Blood. Within Me ~ BDS
"With a hidden wicked smile I hold onto a secret dark power That lies restlessly in my heart I know that I shouldn't tell you I don't know what would compel me To show you the truth
I see you shake I hear the sharp intake of your breath I see you tremble uncontroallably As I begin to change Oh how quickly I do change Into the thing that truly is me The monster within me
You start to pray That I won't take you away I laugh at your stupidity With your end at hand Oh how I'm glad That your praying won't cease your sweet tears
In my deep, dark voice I start to curse All who came before The anger that I have Causes the ground at my feet To break away But you can't And you won't stay Because guess what It's far too late
Winter blue eyes They begin to shine With an awful blood red glow A dark devil Slowly shows I embrace the dark Along with the rest that's feared And in my hand A skeletal form grows Coming when I call For it always knows When blood is to be spilled My chilling call cries out As a scythe that's made From my flesh From my blood And my tears Springs from my palm And in a moment I will choose The path that I'm to take To execute my plans To kill you and the others Or to make my escape The thing you see With giant black wings I can honestly tell you You're not seeing me The thing now standing Where I once stood Is an ancient breed What you now see Is the Crusnik in me"
